Policy and procedure
Students who plan to suspend their studies for one or two semesters must complete a Leave of Absence (LOA) form, stating the reason(s) and the intended date of return.
Students on leave may resume studies within two semesters of the date of leave by registering for courses. Students who do not return after two consecutive semesters must re-apply for admission to AMBS. An abbreviated admission process with fewer requirements may be available to students returning to studies no more than two years after the expiration of the leave of absence. Contact the admissions office for detailed requirements.
A student who does not complete a Leave of Absence form will have his or her student status recorded as "withdrawal without notification." If a student needs to withdraw during the semester, courses should be dropped according to the procedures and refund schedule posted in the Academic Calendar (www.ambs.edu/academics/Academic-Calendar.cfm), and the student should pursue the withdrawal procedure outlined in the catalog.
A student taking a leave of absence during a semester must also complete and submit to the registrar's office a 'Change of Registration' form in order to drop his or her courses.
For students receiving federal student aid: If you do not return to studies upon the expiration of your leave of absence, you will be withdrawn from the seminary and, according to federal rules, the date of your withdrawal will be noted as the date your LOA began. This may mean that the grace period for your loan repayment schedule will have already been exhausted.
The student will be responsible to pay all outstanding tuition and fees in addition to any financial aid and/or school loans the student received that AMBS must return to its source due to the student's withdrawal.
Please complete one of the following actions:
1. Complete and submit this form to the registrar office. Students on a 'Leave of Absence' may register for courses within two (2) semesters of the term of leave without having to re-apply to the seminary.
2. Complete a 'Withdrawal from Seminary' form to be eligible to submit an abbreviated application form when resuming studies within two (2) years from the date of withdrawal. Otherwise, a full application will be required.
